iGaming market weekly report | July 27–August 2, 2026

Mean-reversion after last week’s deep cuts set the tape. Singapore bounced +64.8% after –58.3%; Uzbekistan (+31.9%) finally opened legal iGaming market with two brands; Germany (+32.1%), Vietnam (+28.1%), and Botswana (+23.3%) followed on preseason, enforcement, and AFCON-bid hooks.

Alberta’s –71.0% led the downside — a post-launch hangover, briefly spiked by a July 29 Entain PR flash that reverted within an hour. Russia (–56.7%), South Korea (–29.2%), Ecuador (–28.7%, second straight week), and Queensland (–23.9%) filled out the board.

Top gainers

Singapore +64.8%

After the prior week’s –58.3% plunge, Index mean-reverted hard. Last week Blask wrote about the GemBet shell-company operation. The government reported nine arrests, six frozen entities, more than S$39,000 seized. Singapore was last week’s top decliner, but this week’s print is a technical bounce from that suppressed base.

Germany +32.1%

Club preseason supplied the hook. On July 30 Bayern Munich beat Rottach-Egern 15–0 in a friendly, and Borussia Dortmund played tour matches in Japan on July 29 and August 1.

Uzbekistan +31.9%

Licensing day landed mid-window. On July 31 Olimpbet and Oltinbet became the first two iGaming brands. This historical move was made after more than a year of legalisation without a live licence.

Vietnam +28.1%

Enforcement chatter concentrated acquisition intent. On July 31 the Ministry of Public Security announced the prosecution of 26 suspects in a multi-province Bong88 / lô-đề ring spanning Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and An Giang, with turnover described in the tens of billions of dong.

Botswana +23.3%

Continental hosting politics filled the football vacuum. On July 24 Cosafa / BFA president Tariq Babitseng confirmed that South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe had submitted a joint bid to host AFCON 2028.

Top decliners

CA-Alberta –71%

Event hangover after the July 13 regulated go-live, with one intra-week flash that did not save the print. As for now, 22 iGaming brands operate in Alberta. On July 29 Entain announced Sports Interaction and PartyCasino under AGLC licences, producing a ~1-hour Index spike that snapped straight back.

Russia –56.7%

No in-window catalyst was reported.

South Korea –29.2%

Continued event hangover with no marquee replacement fixture. K League and Sports Toto rounds continued — round 42 closed August 1–2 with another first-prize rollover into a KRW 4.6B pool ($3.2M)— but that calendar effect did not offset the baseline compression.

Ecuador –28.7%

Liga Pro fixtures continued through the window, but no discrete in-window regulatory shock or marquee sports hook dated inside the reporting week.

AU-Queensland –23.9%

Calendar gap inside the Northern Winter Racing Carnival. The Mackay Cup closed on July 25, and Townsville’s feature weekend (August 1 Guineas lead-in, August 8 Cup) had not yet rebuilt equal wagering gravity.

Market spotlight: CA-Alberta | –71.0%

No other market moved farther this week. Alberta’s posted a –71.0% WoW two weeks after the July 13 market launch, when 22 platforms went live and first-week activity was still elevated. On July 29 Entain announced two brands — Sports Interaction and PartyCasino — starting to work in Alberta under AGLC licences.

That flash was branded-search spike, not a demand re-base. The –71.0% remains a post-launch hangover two weeks after go-live. Blask will watch whether Alberta re-bases as more registered brands go live before the October 13 grace-period cliff.

Regional snapshot

Europe

Germany’s +32.1% on Bayern / Dortmund preseason gravity led the green board, with Ireland (+14.9%) adding a quieter lift outside the top five. Hungary (–20.6%) extended a second soft week after the prior reports –34.3%, keeping Central Europe on the wrong side of the ledger.

Asia-Pacific

Singapore’s +64.8% bounce after the prior week’s –58.3% defined the regional upside, while Vietnam’s +28.1% on the July 31 Bong88 prosecution added a second APAC gainer. South Korea (–29.2%) and Queensland (–23.9%) carried the downside; Cambodia (–16.9%) stayed soft for a second consecutive report without reclaiming the top-five cut.

Africa

Southern African football politics and mid-tier Index lifts shared the tape. Botswana’s +23.3% on the AFCON 2028 joint bid led the continental WoW board; Senegal (+21.1%), Namibia (+20.8%), and South Africa (+12.9%, +2.1 million absolute) filled out a broad green cluster. Mali (–19.7%) remained the clearest African decliner, still soft after the prior week’s operator-suspension print.

Next week watchlist

Germany — Bundesliga 2

Competitive football returns August 7 Bundesliga 2 MD1. Blask will watch whether Index holds the +32.1% preseason lift or needs those fixtures to stay elevated.

Uzbekistan — first weeks of licensed betting

Olimpbet’s and Oltinbet’s July 31 authorisation is a structural open, not a one-day spike. Direction depends on whether acquisition intent sustains past the licence headline into August product and payment chatter.

Alberta — post-launch settle vs second compression

The iGaming market in Alberta can grow as more brands start operating under a licence.

Methodology note

Blask Index tracks real-time iGaming player interest via AI-analyzed Google search data, updated hourly and filtered to remove low-intent noise (scams, complaints). WoW% measures momentum: positive indicates growing attention; negative indicates declining attention.
