iGaming market weekly report | August 3–9, 2026

Domestic football calendars replaced World Cup gravity. Acquisition intent shifted to league openers and operator promotions, while last week’s tournament-driven spikes mean-reverted. Turkey (+24.2%) led on Trendyol 1. Lig’s 7–9 August opening round; France (+18.2%) and Guinea (+19.3%) followed. Angola (+17.9%) and the Republic of the Congo (+16.6%) filled out an Africa-heavy gainer board.

The downside sat in regulated Europe and post-World Cup Asia. Ireland (–21.5%) flipped from the prior week’s +14.9% as GRAI licensing and a 30 July consultation added friction; Singapore (–17.2%) mean-reverted after +64.8%. Slovenia (–18.4%), Switzerland (–16.8%), and the Netherlands (–15.7%) read as drift and suppression-layer compression without a single in-window shock.

Top gainers

Turkey +24.2%

Calendar effect ahead of domestic football’s return. Trendyol 1. Lig opened its 2026–27 season on 7 August with Boluspor–Manisa FK. Round 1 continued through 8–9 August with nine fixtures including Antalyaspor–Keçiörengücü and Bodrum FK–Bursaspor.

Guinea +19.3%

On 4 August Guinée Games announced a 250,000,000 GNF (28,500 USD) jackpot on Better Barn House Bonanza, reinforcing the Premier Bet–backed platform’s visibility during its Vegas Festival daily-drops campaign.

France +18.2%

L’Équipe’s broadcast schedule placed multiple Ligue 1 friendlies inside the reporting week, including Lens–Sunderland and Rennes–Brentford matchup on 8 August and Marseille fixtures on 8–9 August, all on Ligue 1+.

Angola +17.9%

The Instituto de Supervisão de Jogos kept its 30-working-day transitional licensing window open under the new Gaming Activity Law. The window opened on 17 July and remained active through the reporting week, giving operators a path to provisional approval before the Q4 2026 public tender.

The Republic of the Congo +16.6%

No clear country-specific trigger surfaced during the reporting week.

Top decliners

Ireland –21.5%

Event hangover after the prior week’s +14.9% surge. Remote betting licences under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024 commenced on 1 July 2026. On 30 July GRAI opened a public consultation on draft regulations for licensed games, record-keeping, and consumer alerts — adding compliance friction atop a market that had already priced in the July licensing headline.

GRAI — Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland.

Slovenia –18.4%

Drift on a structurally restricted market. The Prva Liga Telemach fourth round (Celje–Olimpija, 8 August) supplied domestic football activity. However, Slovenia’s land-based-tethered licensing model and active FURS blocking of unlicensed sites provide no discrete suppression event inside the reporting window to explain the cut.

FURS — Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia.

Singapore –17.2%

On 3 August authorities reported the completion of a May–July sweep. 60 arrests, 600+ blocked sites, S$730,000 seized (USD$570,616). Index mean-reverted once the enforcement headline cycle faded.

Switzerland –16.8%

Drift despite a busy sports calendar. Sierre-Zinal (8 August), the FISU triathlon in Nyon (7–9 August), and Swiss Super League fixtures including Servette–Grasshoppers (8 August) and Lugano–Zürich (9 August) filled the week, yet none maps cleanly to declining acquisition intent.

Netherlands –15.7%

Suppression-layer compression without a discrete in-window shock.

Market spotlight: Turkey | +24.2%

Turkey posted the week’s largest move. The print coincided with Trendyol 1. Lig Round 1 on 7–9 August, the final three days of the reporting window.

The driver is a second-tier calendar effect. TFF scheduled 1. Lig to start on 7–10 August — a week ahead of Süper Lig (14–17 August). It puts former top-flight clubs Antalyaspor, Kayserispor, and Fatih Karagümrük back in competitive action. Blask will watch 14–17 August for Süper Lig Round 1: sustained elevation confirms a full domestic-season re-base. A fade after the top-flight opener would reclassify this week as second-tier-only gravity.

Regional snapshot

Europe

France’s +18.2% on Ligue 1 pre-season broadcasting led the regional upside, while Ireland’s –21.5% flip from the prior week’s +14.9% defined the downside. The Netherlands (–15.7%), Slovenia (–18.4%), and Switzerland (–16.8%) extended a soft patch across regulated Western and Central European markets. Germany (–10.5%, outside the top-five decliners) also cooled after the prior week’s +32.1% preseason surge.

Asia-Pacific

Turkey’s +24.2% dominated the regional board on Trendyol 1. Lig’s 7–9 August opening round, the largest absolute mover globally. Singapore’s –17.2% mean-reverted after the prior week’s +64.8% World Cup enforcement bounce. Bangladesh (+15.1%, outside the top-five gainers) added a second APAC green print, while Myanmar (+13.5%) rounded out mid-tier gains without breaking the top five.

Africa

A broad green cluster led the continent. Guinea (+19.3%), Angola (+17.9%), and the Republic of the Congo (+16.6%) occupied three of the global top-five gainers, with Colombia (+16.1%) and Bangladesh competing at similar magnitudes outside the cut. No African market appeared among the top-five decliners; the prior week’s Botswana (+23.3%) and Senegal (+21.1%) gains rolled off the leaderboard entirely as the World Cup and AFCON-bid hooks faded.

Next week watchlist

Turkey — Süper Lig Round 1 (14–17 August)

Lig MD1 completed on 7–9 August. Trendyol 1. Lig MD1 closes on 10 August with Pendikspor–Batman Petrolspor. The top flight opens 14 August with Galatasaray–Çorum FK, followed by Beşiktaş–Eyüpspor and Gençlerbirliği–Fenerbahçe on 15–16 August. Direction depends on whether second-tier gravity converts into sustained Süper Lig elevation.

France — Ligue 1 pre-season closure and season launch runway

Pre-season friendlies continue through 16 August. The championship opens 21 August with Marseille–Strasbourg. Watch whether the +18.2% print extends into the final pre-season week or mean-reverts before MD1.

Ireland — GRAI consultation and licensing compliance settle

The public consultation on draft regulations runs until 20 August. Remote betting licences are already live from 1 July. A second consecutive decline would confirm regulatory friction as a suppression layer rather than a one-week hangover from the prior report’s +14.9%.

Blask Index tracks real-time iGaming player interest via AI-analyzed Google search data, updated hourly and filtered to remove low-intent noise (scams, complaints). WoW% measures momentum: positive indicates growing attention; negative indicates declining attention.
