Buenos Aires iGaming ban could shut down 44.1% of Argentina’s online gambling market

Operators now allowed to take online bets would have to stop.

Senator Federico Fagioli has filed a bill in the Buenos Aires provincial senate to repeal Title VIII of Law 15,079, articles 146–173, which license online gambling. The draft would bar sports betting and online casino, including slots, roulette, poker and blackjack, plus any game that puts money at risk for a prize, while lotteries, quinielas and raffles would remain.

The bill follows Brazil’s Provisional Measure 1,394 of 25 September 2026, which prohibits iGaming. Licensed operators in the province would have to stop new deposits from the effective date. Within 10 days they would halt new sessions and withdraw advertising, promotions, sponsorship, bonuses and influencer campaigns. Within 30 days they would return player balances and report pending bets to the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos.

Deputies Facundo Tignanelli and Micaela Olivetto have a separate 64-article bill that keeps licences and adds biometric checks, session caps and a bonus ban, though Tignanelli has said a full prohibition needs a national statute.

Blask Index in Buenos Aires province finished September 2026 24.4% above September 2025. Demand peaked in June and then eased, while Corrientes rose 92.2% and Salta and Mendoza grew faster too.
