How December performs across global iGaming markets
Despite the strong pattern shown by Blask data, the last month of the year can still be the worst.
With the holiday season just around the corner, it’s easy to assume December is the natural peak of the iGaming calendar. Blask Index data from the past three years support this, but in six markets, December falls into the bottom half. In one of them, it’s the weakest month on average.
December’s position in Blask Index
Across the 112 markets we currently track, December topped Blask Index in 45 countries in 2022, 56 in 2023, and 43 in 2024. On a 2022–24 average, it ranks first in 68 markets and sits within the top three in 93.
However, only 15 markets recorded a peak Blask Index every December for the past three years, and none of them are currently in the top ten by CEB (Competitive Earning Baseline) for the most recent 12 months. The highest-ranked among these are the Philippines and Bangladesh — the only two Asian markets with consistent December peaks.
Six of these markets are in Africa: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Algeria, Rwanda, Malawi, and Madagascar. Europe contributes five markets: Greece, Austria, Romania, Denmark, and Bulgaria. Latin America has two: Mexico and Venezuela.
Additionally, 34 markets recorded peak Decembers in two of the past three years, scattered across all regions.

Where December underperforms
Surprisingly, not all European markets show a strong Blask Index in the last month of the year. In five European countries — Spain, Ireland, Ukraine, Norway, and Albania — the average December Blask Index falls outside the top three months. Even more notably, in Ukraine and Norway, December ranks in the lower tier, compared to other months.
Beyond Europe , only four other countries fall into this category: Colombia, Armenia, Uruguay, and Paraguay. And Armenia stands out as the weakest of all, with December averaging last place among the 12 months. This can be attributed to the country’s lowest tourist season and the Armenian Christmas celebration occurring on January 6th instead of December 25th.
Reading beyond the cliché
Taken together, these patterns confirm December’s structural strength in most markets, but also highlight why local data and market-specific planning matter far more than any global cliché about the end of the year.
Blask team wishes our partners, clients and everyone following our work a productive December and a strong start to the year ahead.
